Pre-paid funerals

Increasingly, more and more people are both planning and making financial provision for their funeral in advance. This can help to reduce the emotional and financial burden for loved ones when the time comes.

Many people wish to exert their independence and take responsibility for their own funeral arrangements.

By planning now, you can save your loved ones from having to make many decisions at a time of grief. Importantly, because pre-paid funeral plans cover our direct costs, as long as your requirements don't change and we carry out your funeral, these costs are covered. You can also choose to make a contribution towards third party costs which are outside our control.

A pre-arranged funeral plan will involve arranging a private and confidential appointment with R. Steenson & Son. At this meeting the funeral details will be agreed, for example burial or cremation, what clothes are to be worn, whether there will be a funeral service and if so, where, the type of coffin, grave and memorial details, funeral limousine or horse drawn hearse, who is to be involved, the choice of hymns in the event of a funeral service. Nothing is left to chance, to ensure your funeral is carried out exactly as you would have wanted.

How do I select the funeral I want?
Contact R. Steenson & Son to arrange an appointment to suit you. While we will offer guidance the important thing is that you choose.

How much will my funeral cost?

This will depend on the specific details you choose. Your funeral plan will be locally packaged and priced and includes a management fee which covers the cost of administering the plan. You do not have to make any commitment before you know the total price involved. 
 
What will I receive when I join?

You will receive a welcome pack with a covering letter and a certificate of entitlement. The welcome pack includes information regarding what to do at the time of death for family members and a form to record useful information.

How do I know that my money will be safe?
 
We offer Perfect Choice Funeral Plans which are provided by Ecclesiastical Planning Services, a registered member of the Funeral Planning Authority. A Perfect Choice Funeral Plan gives you exceptional financial security for your money. Unlike some plans, every penny of the full value of a Perfect Choice plan (excluding the initial management fee) is held securely in a whole of life assurance policy and ring-fenced for your funeral when the time comes. The money is made immediately available to your funeral director and the funds cannot be used for anything other than your funeral for total peace of mind.

What if the costs of funerals increases?

Like most things, funeral costs are affected by inflation and it is possible that the cost of funerals will increase in the coming years. However, once you have paid for your funeral plan, as long as we carry out your funeral and your requirements don't change, there will be no further charges for our funeral directing services specified in the plan details. 
  
Each plan also includes a contribution towards third party costs (known as disbursements) which we must pay on your behalf e.g. cemetery or crematorium fee, press notices, flowers up to the maximum amount specified. These costs are outside of our control and cannot be guaranteed. If these costs are not covered by the plan's value at the time of need, there may be a balance to pay. 

Can I buy a plan for someone else?

Yes, we find that many people choose to do this.

How do I pay for my plan?

You can make lump sum payment either by cash, cheque or card. Alternatively, you can pay for your funeral plan in manageable monthly instalments over 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 years by setting up a Direct Debit. There is an additional cost for paying by instalments over 2, 3, 4 or 5 years and this additional cost is held in the plan and used for your funeral when the time comes. What if I die away from home?

The plan covers the costs associated with a funeral within 30 miles of the funeral directors premises, including collection of the deceased. Repatriation costs to Northern Ireland are not included. We strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance when you go on holiday that includes full cover for bringing you back home if necessary. If you die outside Northern Ireland , R. Steenson & Son will be able to provide the service but will invoice your family or estate for any travelling charges.

What if I move home after purchasing the plan?
If you move away from the area you should be able to transfer your plan to another suitable funeral director. Funeral costs do vary from area to area, so there may be some additional cost involved. If so you will be advised of any change in cost at that stage.

What if I change my mind? 

 You can choose to cancel your plan at any time. If you cancel your plan up to 30 days from the date of purchase you will receive a full refund. If you cancel after the 30 days, you will receive a refund of the original amount paid, minus the management fee.
